Use of the record

Source attribution, reuse, limitations and responsible use of The Cartulary.

The Cartulary publishes public-interest records and explanatory material. Read each record with its definitions, dates, methodology and limitations.

What publication means

A source label identifies where information came from. It does not guarantee that the source is error-free or that its figures will never be revised. Collections are selective and should not be assumed complete. Nothing on this site is personalised legal, financial or other professional advice.

Reuse and attribution

Source material retains its original licence and any stated exceptions. Follow the licence linked on the evidence record, credit the original publisher and identify any changes you make. A link to a public document is not a claim that The Cartulary owns it or has archived it.

When citing our work, include the page title, record reference where available, URL and date accessed. Contact us about uses where permission is unclear.

Errors and concerns

Do not treat a scrutiny indicator, missing record or geographical overlap as proof of misconduct. If you find an error, use our corrections process. Information about correspondence is in the privacy notice.
