Your choice
We use necessary cookies and offer optional Google Analytics. “Accept analytics” allows analytics; “Only necessary” keeps it off. You can change your choice through “Privacy settings” on every page. The site and its research tools work with analytics off.
Reading and exploring
The Cartulary’s Atlas search and filters run in your browser. They do not need an account, location permission or saved postcode. The interface does not store search filters in cookies or local storage. We do not use advertising trackers.
Necessary functions
Complianz remembers your privacy choices in first-party cookies beginning cmplz_. These include the selected categories, the policy version and whether the banner has been answered. A category cookie can record a refusal; its presence does not mean that tracking in that category is allowed. These settings expire after up to 180 days and may be replaced when you change your choice.
WordPress uses cookies for signed-in administrators. The hosting and security services may use necessary technical measures to protect the website. The enquiry form uses a security token and a temporary server-side submission limit.
Optional analytics
After you allow analytics, Google Tag Manager loads Google Analytics 4. It measures page visits, file-download types and the domains of external links selected so we can understand which parts of the site are useful. Analytics stays blocked before a choice and after “Only necessary”. No consent-mode measurement pings are sent to Google while analytics is denied.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
_ga |
Distinguishes visits using a browser identifier. | Up to 180 days from creation. |
_ga_<stream identifier> |
Maintains analytics session information. | Up to 180 days from creation. |
These are first-party analytics cookies on The Cartulary’s domain. Their expiry is not extended on each page visit. Browsers may shorten their lifetime. Choosing “Only necessary”, or switching Analytics off and saving, stops future collection through our integration and removes these analytics cookies. This does not automatically delete analytics information already collected.
Our analytics events exclude enquiry details, search terms, selected filters, and URL query strings or fragments. Google also receives browser and device information and derives approximate location. Analytics is not used for advertising personalisation. Read our privacy notice for consent, processing and retention information, and Google’s cookie documentation for its cookie functions.
External content and links
Fonts and interface assets are served by this site. Google analytics scripts are loaded only with your permission. Some source links open their publishers’ websites, where those publishers’ privacy and cookie policies apply.
Questions and changes
We will update this page if the services or purposes change. Use “Privacy settings” to review your current choice, or send a question.
