Public sector net debt excluding public sector banks; equivalent to 94.1% of GDP.

Definition

This is public sector net debt excluding public sector banks, a balance at the end of the month. It deducts liquid financial assets from relevant liabilities. It is not the same as borrowing during the month.

What the source reports

The July 2026 bulletin provisionally estimates debt at £2,984.9 billion, equivalent to 94.1% of GDP. The time-series identifiers are HF6W (billions of pounds) and HF6X (percentage of GDP). The figures are not seasonally adjusted and may be revised.

Verification

The bulletin and both individual ONS time-series tables were checked. This is a record of that dated publication. The Ledger can show a later ONS observation after a successful source refresh; it does not overwrite the meaning of this snapshot.
